Where the air becomes form.

There were moments, while traveling through different regions of Japan, when my heart quietly paused before its culture.

The beautiful handwork of craftsmen threading warp yarns through a reed, one strand at a time.
The streets lined with sawtooth-roofed buildings that have stood for over a century.

All of it felt like a background that must not be forgotten.

Craftsmanship has long moved me deeply.
And yet, I was never drawn to mingei itself in a direct way.

Though all are shaped by human hands, I kept wondering what created that subtle difference.

In Toyama, there is an old temple called Zentokuji, filled with quiet atmosphere.
When I learned that it was the place where Soetsu Yanagi wrote The Dharma Gate of Beauty, it stayed in my mind.

Standing there in person, I felt as though I understood, if only slightly.

Beauty is not born simply from arranging forms.
Perhaps it emerges from the accumulation of time, human presence, and quiet sensibilities that have flowed through a place.

I feel that mingei is a climate born from consciousness.

What kind of air people have lived within.
What they have found beautiful.
What kind of time they have spent.

When creating clothing, I do not wish to think only about design.

Forms that quietly emerge from an accumulation of awareness.

The feeling of one’s posture gently straightening when wearing a garment.
A presence that softly lingers within the person.

Beyond the boundaries of words like craft or mingei,
I want to create garments that hold even those invisible things.
